Distinguished Achievement Awards

About the President's Distinguished Achievement Awards

University

Distinguished Achievement Awards are the University’s most prestigious internal awards. They take place annually and recognise the outstanding work of colleagues, students and teams across the University.

They recognise staff and students who have made outstanding contributions in one of the following categories:

  • Researcher
  • Postgraduate Researcher (PGR)
  • Teacher, Undergraduate (UG)
  • Postgraduate Taught (PGT) student
  • Individual - Professional Services (PS) and Cultural Institutions (CI)
  • Team - Professional Services (PS) and Cultural Institutions (CI)

In addition, on the extremely rare occasions when none of these categories are appropriate, nominations can be made in the General category.

Academic and Student categories

Faculties coordinate nominations for Distinguished Achievement Awards locally in the following categories:

  • Teacher of the Year
  • Researcher of the Year
  • Undergraduate Student of the Year
  • Postgraduate Researcher of the Year
  • Postgraduate Taught Student of the Year

Faculties will publicise these awards via their own channels. 

The call for the Postgraduate Taught Student category is made in early September each year with conferments taking place in the winter Graduation ceremonies. For the other categories the call is made later in September with the awards being presented the following summer. 

Professional Services and Cultural Institutions category

For the Professional Services and Cultural Institutions category, nominations can be made through your Faculty or Directorate or can be sent to the Secretary of the Awards and Honours Group, Deborah Black. If you wish to nominate through your Faculty or Directorate look out for the call which is made in September/October each year. 

General category

For the General category, nominations must be sent to the Secretary of the Awards and Honours Group, Deborah Black. These can be submitted at any time of year.  If you wish to nominate look out for the call which is made in September each year.
