Your guide to safe, responsible and ethical AI use at Manchester

14 May 2026

The University has been updating existing, and creating new, policies, guidelines and training to support the safe, responsible and ethical use of AI, reflecting feedback from colleagues and students as AI adoption grows across our community.

These policies and guidelines are essential for shaping how AI at Manchester is used and evolves with responsible, ethical and innovative use at its heart.

As we prepare to introduce Microsoft 365 Copilot to all colleagues and students, ensuring everyone is equipped with clear guidelines is vital. Feedback from our broader community and Microsoft 365 Copilot early cohort has been integrated into policy, guideline and training developments to support everyone adequately through this change. The next phase of the rollout will begin on 18 May when all Professional Services colleagues will begin to receive licences and training.
