University of Manchester Worldwide’s expert team offers guidance and support to colleagues considering the development of their course in a more agile way from market insight, marketing and recruitment, course design and delivery through to student support.
We work with the University’s Market Insights team as potential courses come forward from Schools in collaboration with the academic lead. A marketing insight report will then be created that provides a detailed analysis of the sector, geographical markets, competitor landscape (UK and internationally) and fee considerations. Where appropriate we will also conduct primary research.
Marketing and Recruitment
Once a course is approved we work with the academic team to develop and implement a proactive marketing and recruitment campaign. All marketing campaigns must begin at least 12 months before the first intake on a course. Whilst all admissions decisions reside with the School, UMW is responsible for ensuring that those all suitable candidates who express interest in a course are proactively engaged from initial enquiry and through to enrolment.
Course Design and Development
As soon as a course is approved, UMW will allocate a dedicated eLearning Technologist to work with the academic team to design and develop the online teaching and learning materials collaborative and other activities, and the assessment strategy. Our focus is to ensure the best possible learning experience throughout all stages of the student journey.
As part of the development process, a short Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) will be created for all UMW developed courses via the FutureLearn platform. The eLearning Technologist will support the academic team in designing the MOOC. The aim is to run a MOOC for a four week period approximately six months before the start of the course. This provides those who have started to express interest in a course with an opportunity to sample a University of Manchester education before enrolling.
Course Delivery and Student Support
All online learners will have access to a named UMW Study Advisor who will provide support and advice to students from a non-academic perspective. The Study Advisor will also provide one-to-one or small group inductions prior to the commencement of the course. This will introduce students to online learning, services offered by UoM eg Disability, Careers etc and help them navigate Blackboard .
