Explorance Blue

The University continually seeks ways to improve the way we request and use student feedback to drive positive change for our students. This is a focus of our strategic vision and we are looking at various ways to embed this fully into our business-as-usual quality enhancement processes. We need to offer our students not only the opportunity to feedback to us, but to do so in a way that yields high-quality information that can be used to drive continual improvements in teaching and learning and in the overall student experience.

The Taught Programme Enhancement Team (TPE) are leading on the pilot of a new survey tool called Explorance Blue, which complements a second pilot currently underway of a new type of feedback tool called Unitu. Explorance Blue is advanced software, with huge potential, that we can use to deliver high-quality surveys to students and staff to yield meaningful data.

Explorance Blue is more flexible than our current tool and has the capacity to integrate with university systems. In future this means it can be used to facilitate the creation of surveys specific to the needs of local areas as well as to satisfy institution-wide surveys, and we can bring in more data, such as student demographics to produce more insightful reports to support colleagues in making judgements about the quality of our provision.

We will be providing regular updates to colleagues about Explorance, so please check this page for updates as the pilot progresses.

TPE asks that colleagues work with us whilst we phase the implementation of this new tool.  We have, to this point, been able to accommodate all ad hoc requests for building and deploying surveys outside of our core semester windows.  After semester one we can no longer guarantee that we can support such requests until we have fully implemented the survey tool following our learning from this semester 1 pilot.  We are also supporting the development of a new survey strategy and operational framework which will formalise a governance process for supporting these surveys from Semester 2 onwards.

For any queries relating to this pilot, please email TPE at teachingandlearningsurveys@manchester.ac.uk.
