People Leader Programme

5 people looking at a whiteboard with post-it notes

The People Leaders Development Programme is a 6 month programme designed for colleagues in people management roles.

It aims to build confidence and capability in leading yourself and others, in alignment with the University’s values and the Manchester 2035 strategy.

The programme requires a total time commitment of approximately 7 days (equivalent) over 6-months. This includes:

  • 5x full day (10.00-16.00) in‑person workshops,
  • Additional 2-3 hour events for the programme launch, social learning sets for small group peer collaboration, and a final impact event.

In addition, participants will complete prereading for each module, the Clifton Strengths Assessment, and deliver a peer presentation reflecting on their learning and leadership practice.

We have in person cohorts starting in February and March; when applying please specify which cohort best suits you. Please see the Participant Criteria and Eligibility details listed below. Additional programme dates will be released in 2026.

Delivered fully in-person at venues across the Oxford Road campus, the programme is facilitated by Talent Development colleagues, including Specialists and Senior Specialists. Their expertise ensures that the learning experience is grounded in the University’s context, aligning with our values, culture, and strategic priorities.

Workshops are highly interactive, incorporating group discussions, individual activities, and role-play exercises to encourage practical application of learning.

A virtual equivalent will launch later this year for colleagues who are unable to attend in person or who prefer a virtual learning environment.

To discuss any accessibility requirements you may have and how we can accommodate these, please contact the Talent Development team by emailing OD@manchester.ac.uk
