Apprenticeships (Intermediate to Degree)

Before requesting FE / HE or External Training funding you must check with Staffapprenticeships@manchester.ac.uk to see if this funding route is applicable in the first instance. Apprenticeships are available to all our staff for career development. They are not restricted by age, previous qualifications or where you currently are in your career. Apprenticeships develop you alongside your current role. If your manager supports your application, you will be awarded time to complete your apprenticeship within working hours, whilst completing some study in your own time. On completion of the apprenticeship, you will gain a nationally recognised qualification.

Further and Higher Education (FE/HE) Funding Scheme

The University is committed to providing staff with both the training necessary to perform their current work effectively; and opportunities to develop further skills to support future duties and career development.

Further Education (FE) Funding Scheme

Typically this scheme will apply to staff undertaking qualifications such as GCSEs, vocationally based A levels, professional qualifications and vocationally oriented degrees. The conditions of funding are available to download and are included within the application process.

Applicants need to complete the FE/HE Scheme Application Form where your line manager will be alerted to complete the FE/HE Scheme Manager Support Declaration Form. Please use the links below to access the forms and follow the instructions.

Financial Support for Further and Higher Education Policy

Student Payments & Registration Team guidance

Fill in an FE/HE Scheme application form for each year of funding requested. Note: we cannot guarantee to meet the costs of your course if you do not list all costs on your application. Please ensure all appropriate exam results are forwarded to L&OD with your application.

If you are studying with the University of Manchester please contact Student Services for further information. A Tuition Fee Administration and Policies document is available from the Student Services Centre.

This scheme does not typically fund short courses e.g. courses that take less than one academic year to complete. If your course is less than one academic year and is not a GCSE, vocationally based A level, professional qualification or vocationally oriented degree we suggest the External Training Funding Scheme is more appropriate.

Applications should be received by Learning & Organisational Development Team at least one month prior to the course start as these can take up to one month to process.

Training & Development Funding Scheme

This scheme supports staff attending specific job-related training and meeting development needs that cannot be met within Learning & Organisational Development Team. Note: for the most part, applications to attend Academic Conferences will not be supported under this scheme, for exceptions please see the ET funding information.

If you are applying for funding towards GCSEs, vocationally based A levels, professional qualifications and vocationally oriented degrees you should complete the online form for the Further Education (FE) Funding Scheme.

Applications should be received by Learning & Organisational Development Team at least one month prior to the course start as these can take up to one month to process:
