Technical Registration

Science council Registered Scientist (RSci), Registered Science Technician (RSci) Award and Chartered Scientist (CSci).

The scheme has been developed to recognise high standards of professionalism at all levels for anyone working in Science. The Science Council have created the Registers and have licensed a number of science-based professional bodies, to award registration, creating a framework for professional registration across the science workforce. More information on this can be found on the The Science Council website.

The Registers are aimed at those practising science at the full professional level and at those for whom scientific knowledge or practice at that level forms an essential element for the fulfilment of their roles. Individual members can apply for registration through a process of peer assessment and entry standards are based on a combination of knowledge and understanding, professional competence and commitment to professional ethics, conduct and CPD (continuing professional development).

If accepted as a Registered Scientist, Registered Science Technician or Chartered Scientist, members will be entitled to the use the abbreviation “RSci”, “RSciTech” or “CSci” after their names, subject to payment of an annual fee. Members will be required to revalidate their registrations annually by demonstrating that they are still professionally active and that they have engaged in Professional and Personal Development.

As part of an initiative to support this scheme Staff Learning and Development are providing full funding for individual members of staff wishing to apply for Registered Scientist, Registered Science Technician or Chartered Scientist status. However Staff Learning and Development will not pay for your registration to a professional body.

Information on how to apply can be found in the following documents.
