If you are thinking about taking on the role of becoming a school governor, join the University's upcoming introductory webinar on Tuesday, 26 November from 5-6pm to find out what’s involved and how to get started.
By becoming a school governor, you will have the opportunity to broaden your skills and make an important contribution to the strategic development of a school. You may become involved in issues as diverse as site management, pupil welfare, curriculum development, HR and finance. The governing role is diverse and your involvement will vary according to the needs of the school you are placed in.
As a governor, you are an essential asset in the wider leadership of the school and offering your skills and knowledge to your school is a fantastic and rewarding way to contribute to the school's future success.
Roz Webster, Faculty Social Responsibility and Environmental Sustainability Manager, shared her experiences of being a school governor: "Being a governor has been such a worthwhile role. It’s enabled me to develop my skills in data and report analysis and my ability to think strategically. It has increased my confidence in asking challenging questions and having difficult conversations and I also get to see first-hand the impact excellent educational interventions and pastoral support can have on a young person’s life, especially if their home life has its own challenges. Being able to play a small part in this is hugely rewarding and I’d really encourage colleagues to apply to be a governor."
