Places available on the ‘Researcher to Innovator’ training programme

07 Dec 2020

Opportunity for researchers to develop their innovative thinking and enhance their understanding of the commercialisation process

The Masood Entrepreneurship Centre is delighted to confirm that places are now available for the next Researcher to Innovator (R2I) Bootcamp, a commercialisation programme that was successfully introduced to Early Career Researchers (ECRs) here at our University in 2019.

Taking place in January 2021, this programme has been re-designed to fit purpose for online delivery, without compromising on quality.

Delivered by experts in research and innovation, this is exciting news for researchers wanting to develop their entrepreneurial mind-set. With just 30 places available, a high volume of interest is expected amongst those wanting to create impact with their research through commercialisation.

Mario Sandoval Olive, Researcher from the School of Computer Science, was part of the previous online R2I Bootcamp that took place in October. With ongoing support from the Enterprise team, he has since been accepted and funded to participate in the national Lean Launch Programme to further understand his target market and validate his assumptions. He is now in the process of applying for a highly coveted place on the Innovate UK funded ICURe programme, to help drive his idea forward.

Mario commented: "I attended the R2I Bootcamp with interest in exploring my idea of creating a commercially viable computing solution that enables a more natural and intuitive gaming experience, especially for people with mobility issues that could make it difficult or impossible to use a standard controller. The R2I programme presented a valuable opportunity to develop my skills and thinking to drive my idea forward, and to understand further the support that is offered through our University for commercialising research."

He added: "Although the event took place through Zoom, I believe that distance learning can help us gain the skill to freely adjust to change as it was an engaging and enjoyable experience to be involved – I highly recommend!"

The R2I programme offers an introduction to commercialisation and aims to strengthen the entrepreneurial mind-set of the Researcher, enhance their innovative thinking, whilst developing their understanding of the commercialisation process.

If you would like to benefit from this bespoke programme of support, please register using Eventbrite by Thursday, 7 January.
