This section contains guidance to develop the knowledge and skills needed to implement recruitment effectively. It highlights various required training options that ensure your efforts are carried out fairly and consistently.
All three parts need to be completed by anyone involved in the recruitment process
There are three mandatory parts to recruitment training at the university:
- Online module on Unconscious Bias (updated July 2020)
- Online module Diversity in The Workplace (updated July 2020)
- A recruitment and selection workshop (delivered in-person or online) for either academic or PS staff as appropriate to your role.
All three parts need to be completed by anyone involved in the recruitment process.

CUBIAS19: Unconscious Bias
Colleagues taking part in an academic promotion committee or a recruitment panel are required to undertake this on-line module. This module will provide colleagues with a greater understanding of unconscious bias and how biases can be formed.
Diversity in The Work Place
Colleagues taking part in an academic promotion committee or a recruitment panel are required to undertake this on-line module. This module aims to provide colleagues with an opportunity to familiarise themselves with equalities legislation; gain an understanding of the broader issues of equality and diversity; to know their responsibilities and rights as a member of staff at the University.
Colleagues also need to attend a mandatory workshop relevant to their needs:

Delegates will have the opportunity to understand why recruiting effectively is important; to develop knowledge and understanding of the recruitment and selection process; to develop skills to enable successful and effective recruitment; to practise short-listing job applicants; to structure and carry out an effective interview; share good practice.
TRS02: Recruiting Staff at Manchester to Academic/Research Posts
