The University wants to hear your ideas for new AI solutions

The AI Pathfinder Programme helps colleagues across the University turn ideas into innovative AI solutions.  

Whether you are looking to reduce administrative workload, improve services, or explore new approaches in research and teaching, Pathfinder supports colleagues from early ideas through to a fully developed business case, helping to test, develop and scale new and innovative ways of working. 

Aligned with the Manchester 2035 vision, Pathfinder focuses on delivering meaningful improvements in how we work, helping colleagues test, develop and scale innovative ideas that can make a real difference. It provides a safe space to experiment, test new approaches and learn what works before scaling more widely. 

Bringing ideas to life 

Many of the most impactful ideas start small, and Pathfinder is designed to help you explore, test and scale innovative solutions that can make a real difference.  

You do not need to be an AI expert to take part, and we are always on the lookout for new ideas. 

Whether you have a frustration in your day-to-day work or an early-stage solution, we can help you shape your project into something practical, innovative and impactful. 

Many ideas start small. This might include: 

  • reducing time spent on repetitive tasks through smarter automation
  • improving access to information or data in new and more intuitive ways
  • enhancing the experience for students or staff through innovative digital approaches 

Pathfinder is already successfully supporting and delivering projects across areas of the University, from Alumni engagement to research finance.
