Watch: Behind the scenes at our Museum gift shop

02 Dec 2022

Manchester Museum may be closed, but colleagues from the Museum gift shop are gearing up for a busy festive season

Candles available to buy from the Museum online gift shop

While the gift shop team get ready for the Museum's reopening in February, you can still buy items through their online gift shop. We were given an exclusive, behind-the-scenes look at some of the beautiful items available to buy.

The gift shop is offering University colleagues an exclusive 10% discount on all online purchases. What's more, they can deliver your orders to your desk on campus or can offer a 'click and collect' service. And if you're buying gifts for the festive season, they can giftwrap your items for free too!

While the Museum is closed, the retail team has been working hard behind the scenes on their buying strategy to develop a more sustainable product offer, inspired by the Museum’s collections and made by local, diverse and sustainable suppliers.

Emma Gittins, Buyer and Product Developer, says: “We try and work with brands that care for both their people and the planet and love working with the wonderful creative makers we have in Manchester. We also look to partner with brands and suppliers that are supporting communities such as Just Trade. Just Trade have recently produced an exclusive collection for us that celebrates Murray, our very own Museum therapy dog who you may have seen on campus!"

From handmade, ethical jewellery, Golden Mummies exhibition merchandise, to a botanical-inspired collaboration with Yorkshire-based Plewsy, you can find something to complete your festive shopping lists. Need to update your Christmas tree? The bee-print baubles could be the perfect finishing touch, or go for a fun-filled animal theme with knitted dinosaurs, elephants and dodos.

When the Museum reopens in February 2023, visitors will find a much bigger, beautifully-decorated gift shop on the ground floor, designed by Lancashire-based Artistry House.
