Register of Interests declaration

13 Sep 2021

All staff on Grade 6 or above are required to complete Register of Interests declaration by Thursday, 30 September

All staff on Grade 6 or above at The University of Manchester are required to complete a declaration in the Register of Interests system annually and also update it during the year if their circumstances change.

Staff with no interests to declare must submit a nil return, and staff on other grades with possible interests should also declare this.

This is a requirement under University Ordinance VIII and the Financial Regulations. Staff must declare any personal interest that might be reasonably deemed to compromise impartiality, conflict with duty as an employee or potentially result in a conflict of interests leading to private benefit.

This completion is for the academic year 2020/21.

We are currently planning the process of moving to a new system for the Register of Interests. We had hoped to complete this in time to facilitate completion of the return for current year, but unfortunately this will not be possible. We are aware of some issues with the current system, which will be addressed in the move to a new platform, and where possible, we have tried to anticipate questions that might arise in the FAQs below.

Please note:

  • If you joined the University since October 2019 and have submitted an online return you will need to complete the submission again as your return will be held within the 2019/20 record
  • If you have moved departments or changed jobs since October 2019 this will not have updated on the system. Please complete your return under your previous department/ job role (we will be able to ensure correct departmental/job title in the move to the new system).
  • To access the Register of Interests system off campus, you will need to log in using a secure Virtual Private Network (VPN) connection.
  • It is recommended that you use FireFox or Chrome to complete your declaration rather than Internet Explorer. This is due to a known issue with IE11. If you are accessing the system on an Apple Mac, do not use the Safari web browser; other browsers such as Chrome or Firefox work with the system.

Please click on the link below to access the Online Register of Interests which should be completed by 30 September 2021:

To submit a nil return takes only four mouse clicks. If there has been no change to information you have recorded previously, it is not necessary to re-enter these details. Simply check the information and resubmit it.

Further guidance including FAQ and Demo can be found at:

The guidance provides examples of what information must be disclosed, the main categories of interest are any paid employment, including self-employment, any board positions held with other companies and membership of professional bodies.
