Rewarding Exceptional Performance Scheme

06 Jan 2021

The annual Rewarding Exceptional Performance Scheme will be open for nominations from Thursday, 7 January 2021

Rewarding Exceptional Performance Scheme

This is the time of year when line managers can nominate colleagues, or teams, who have performed exceptionally for a one off task or over longer periods.

2020 has been an exceptionally challenging year.  Many colleagues have had to get used to working in new and different ways as well as juggling caring responsibilities, ill health or bereavement. Applications this year should clearly demonstrate how and why a colleague’s contribution has been truly exceptional and stands out as making a significant contribution.

Successful applicants for the Rewarding Exceptional Performance Scheme will be awarded a payment up to the value of one increment for a one off task. Where a member of staff has shown a Sustained Exceptional Performance, they will advance to the next point on the salary scale (for those at top of their scale, a contribution point). An appropriate payment may also be split between a team where there has been a combined achievement. Line managers are reminded that this scheme is open to all staff on grades 1 – 8 and are encouraged to consider the differing contributions of staff at all levels within their teams.

It is widely acknowledged that staff who are valued for their efforts will feel happier and more fulfilled, which in turn boosts commitment and job satisfaction. The Thank You Scheme is also available for line managers and colleagues to recognise staff contributions.

Nominations will be welcomed for staff in Professional Services and Cultural Institutions between Thursday, 7 January and Friday, 26 February 2021, where they will then be assessed by Local Management Panels. The nominations for academic and research staff are reviewed by School and Faculty Promotions Committees who will share their timetables locally.
