Help our students Step Up and Lead

25 Nov 2020

New guidance for helping undergraduates to take a step towards our prestigious Stellify Award – and boost their confidence

Stellify students

The Stellify Award is the University’s most prestigious extra-curricular award available for all undergraduate students.

To receive the award, students are required to:

  • Complete 25 hours of community-facing volunteering hours to Make a Difference;
  • Complete all three Ethical Grand Challenges to achieve Understanding the Issues that Matter;
  • And complete two leadership roles to achieve Step Up and Lead.

Our colleagues are asked to help them achieve these three steps – and there’s new guidance to help you offer roles for them to Step Up and Lead.

Step Up and Lead encompasses a range of formally recognised activities where students lead, represent or support their peers within the University. Activities can either be open to all students, or roles developed for specific cohorts, such as students in a particular School. They include both elected and non-elected student roles.

“This is an essential step in achieving our Stellify Award and also a really exciting, fulfilling experience for our students,” Head of Student Development, Colette Cooke explained. “It stretches them and therefore gives them a lot of confidence for when they leave our University.”
