Looking at diversity at Manchester

20 Apr 2020

We continue our monthly look at our different Staff Network Groups with a focus on the Diversity of Manchester from an International perspective

The theme for May in the Diversity Calendar concentrates on the diversity of our population and how we support our international staff.

We have a dedicated Staff Network group for our International Staff:

This group was established in 2010 and used to have regular meetings.  They were instrumental in helping produce a handbook for International staff (this has recently been reviewed and updated, but the final published version has been delayed due to COVID-19).

The Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Unit established the International Buddying Network in 2015 as a way to connect internationals staff and ‘buddy up’.  This has proved particular useful for international staff starting work in Manchester and these informal connections have enabled people to learn from others’ experiences.  We’ll be reinvigorating the network in May with a number of activities, so if you would like to be a buddy or be matched with someone, then please do let us know:

Human Resources also provide comprehensive pages for all International Staff:

And whilst primarily aimed at students, the International Society can prove a useful organisation for staff too:

Remember that staff network groups are open to anyone regardless of any Equality Group and so we hope you find one or more that you can participate in.
