Creative engagement for wellbeing: photography and poetry competitions

27 Mar 2020

With most of us at home amid the evolving Covid-19 situation, there are two things that we can do to positively impact our wellbeing: stay connected and get creative

Creative Manchester is currently running two competitions that facilitate both, with the added bonus that there are some great prizes up for grabs.

International Photography Competition

Presented in partnership with the Manchester China Institute, the International Photography Competition invites you to get creative with your phone camera. All you have to do is capture the essence of what ‘family’ means to you in a photo.

Eligibility and prizes

This competition is open to anyone resident in the UK or China, and there are two top prizes of £1000 / 8,888 RMB on offer, as well as a People’s Choice Award of £500.

How to enter

All submissions should be emailed to creative@manchester.ac.uk with the subject line ‘What does family mean to you?’. This email should include:

  • A photo in its original format
  • An accompanying title of no more than ten words or Chinese characters and a narrative caption of no more than 30 words or Chinese characters describing the image and what it means to you
  • Your name and country of residence (either UK or China).

Dates

The International Photography Competition is now open for entries and the submission deadline is 25 May 2020.

Before entering, please read further details about the competition.

Creative Manchester Poetry Competition

Presented in partnership with the Centre for New Writing, the Creative Manchester Poetry Competition invites you to write a micropoem (280 characters max) about the climate.

Eligibility and prizes

The competition is open to all, and first place will receive £500, while two runners-up will receive £250 each.

How to enter

To enter the competition, you can either:

  • Tweet your micropoem via Twitter, including the hashtag #Micropoem20.
  • Email your micropoem to creative@manchester.ac.uk (the same character limit applies for micropoems submitted via email).

Dates

The Creative Manchester Poetry Competition is now open for entries and the submission deadline is 21 June 2020.

Before entering, please read further details about the competition.

Good luck and most of all, enjoy getting creative.
