New Year Honours for FSE academic

08 Jan 2020

Congratulations to Adisa Azapagic, Professor of Sustainable Chemical Engineering, who has received an MBE in the 2020 New Year Honours list

Professor Azapagic, whose research interests include sustainable production and consumption, life cycle sustainability assessment and corporate sustainability, was recognised for her services to sustainability and carbon footprinting.

Head of the School of Engineering Professor Alice Larkin said: "I'd like to add my congratulations to the many - I'm sure - that Adisa has received for her award. It is very well deserved.

"I'm delighted that one of our engineers, who has worked so hard for such an important issue as sustainability, has been recognised for her efforts."

In addition to her work within the Department of Chemical Engineering and Analytical Science, Professor Azapagic also leads the Sustainable Industrial Systems Group, an internationally-leading research group that helps to identify sustainable solutions for industrial systems on a lifecycle basis.

It works across a range of industrial sectors and collaborates with government, non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and other organisations, specialising in various sustainability-focused areas.

Professor Azapagic was awarded the IChemE Award for Outstanding Achievements in Chemical and Process Engineering in 2010, and the GSK/CIA Innovation Award in 2011. Her fellowships and honorary appointments include fellowships from UNESCO and the Royal Academy of Engineering.
