She's The Business

Female entrepreneurship is on the rise in the UK, and our University continues to support female entrepreneurs at a grassroots level.

The Masood Enterprise Centre (MEC), based within the Alliance Manchester Business School, once again hosted their annual She’s the Business event with phenomenal success. The event saw over 120 female entrepreneurs from across campus and the Greater Manchester area, gather together to learn from a range of exceptional business women.

Lynn Sheppard, Director of MEC commented: “We’re delighted to be hosting this annual event, during Global Entrepreneurship Week, which celebrates, empowers, and supports women in business."

In a world where the power of social media is influence, this year’s event brought together a range of content creators to discuss tactics for influencer marketing. Experts Holly Wood, Samio Renelda, Emma Campbell and Rosie Butcher shared their tips on how to use your personal brand to drive your social following and grow your business.

Their top tips included:

  • Build brand awareness and trust with your target audience
  • Maintain loyalty and uphold your brand values
  • Be confident in in your product or service
  • Research who you want to work with

A range of workshops also enabled entrepreneurs to build confidence, broaden networks and utilise new tools to manage challenging situations. She’s the Business delegate Chloe said: “This event has been fantastic. It’s given me the space to focus on some strategic points of developing my business, like finding funding and building my networks.”

Keynote speaker Grace Beverley, Founder and Director of both TALA and B_ND gave inspirational insight into her start-up journey and her approach to tackling the doubters. Highlighting that you get the best business insight through practice, she stressed that there’s no template when it comes to starting up your business.

Ellie Buckley, Enterprise Business Development Executive, MEC added: “Our team is dedicated to supporting all entrepreneurs, providing them with the tools and skills to build their business. However, we know that 1 in 3 of our entrepreneurs are female. She’s the Business really encourages more women to get involved in enterprise and gives them the dedicated space and opportunity to consider a career as their own boss.”

She’s the Business is organised by the Masood Enterprise Centre and kindly supported by their partners: DWF, Fuelcard Services and Huckletree.
