Green Impact Awards 2019

27 Nov 2019

A special celebration of a decade of Green Impact

Green Impact Awards

On 20 November, staff and students from across the University came together at the Whitworth Hall for the Green Impact Awards 2019 to recognise and celebrate their achievements of the past year, marking the 10th year of the programme.

Green Impact is an international behaviour change programme designed to support environmentally and socially sustainable practice in organisations, and has been carried out across the University for the past decade. Over this period, more than 5,600 staff members completed 24,000 actions addressing sustainability and social justice issues.

During the ceremony, a total of 80 awards were handed out, with a record number of 42 entrants achieving gold standard this year.  Students were also acknowledged for their important role in supporting Green Impact over the course of the year; 84 students gained transferable employability skills in sustainability.

The ceremony included a panel of the University’s Environmental Sustainability leaders who shared their ambitions for biodiversity and reducing air travel, carbon consumption and single use plastics in the coming years, and highlighted the importance of collaborative staff and student action to achieve these opportunities.

The 2018/19 programme was the final year of Green Impact at the University. We are currently in the final development stages of incorporating team-based activity into the award-winning 10,000 Actions platform. We will be launching this in the New Year and are looking for teams to be involved in the trial, please email es@manchester.ac.uk if you would like to get involved or have any questions about the programme.
