Update on the USS position, with subtitles

12 Nov 2019

The UCU is balloting its members for industrial action in relation to changes

Recently both the Senate and the Board of Governors benefitted from a briefing on the current Universities Superannuation Scheme (USS) position. The University and Colleges Union (UCU) is currently balloting its members for industrial action in relation to changes to the scheme.

The session was led by an independent expert, Paul Hamilton, Partner and Head of Higher Education at Barnett Waddingham. Barnett Waddingham is not involved in offering advice to employers, the pension trustee or the UCU. The briefing covered the background to the current dispute, including the respective roles and remits of the pension trustee and regulator, the broader pensions context and wider investment prospects.
