Our Values – update and next steps

20 Aug 2019

Thank you to everyone who has contributed their stories to help uncover our University’s values

More than 730 colleagues have got involved in this work so far by contributing their experiences and stories, as well as their feedback on our existing values.

The next step will be to analyse these stories (40,500 words in total), alongside feedback from the Staff Survey (75,000 words in total), to identify a set of shared values.  This short film explains more about our approach.

In addition, more than 500 comments on the University’s existing values will be assessed.  To make sure that our values are grounded in the history and heritage of our University, we’ve commissioned two of our History MA students to carry out some research into the purpose and values of our founding institutions.

All of these aspects will come together at a workshop taking place in early September where a cross-section of colleagues representing each part of our University will use them to begin to shape our values.

The aim is to develop a single set of values which will feature in our University’s new strategic plan alongside our purpose and vision. This work follows on from feedback from Our Future where colleagues said they wanted to talk more about our culture, values and a sense of ‘Manchesterness’.
