Dignity at Work Policy

Professor Colette Fagan, Vice-President for Research, reminds staff about the University Dignity at Work Policy
We are following up on a number of responses in the recent staff survey. A very important one is harassment and bullying. Five percent of staff reported that they had experienced harassment and/or bullying. This is the same percentage as in the previous staff survey, and while it is lower than many other organisations, it is still much higher than we would wish.
All members of our community have the right to be treated fairly and with dignity and respect, and we are committed to providing a working and learning environment which is free from bullying and harassment (and any other forms of inappropriate behaviour, including discrimination and victimisation).
On behalf of the University leadership team I led the introduction of a revised Dignity at Work Policy, which was launched earlier this year. We would like to remind you of the extensive support available to staff and students who feel that they are experiencing bullying and harassment, and for those who raise concerns of this nature:
- University’s Dignity at Work and Study Policy and Procedure – our policy and procedures outline the support available to staff and students, and the steps you can take to seek advice and raise any concerns.
- University’s Report & Support portal – this enables staff to report concerns in relation to harassment and bullying (including anonymously) and seek support from a trained advisor.
- Support from managers and HR – your manager or a member of our HR team will be happy to explore how we may address any concerns you have, and how we may support you.
We encourage anyone who has any such concerns to raise them through one of the above channels and to access the support available from the University.
