Playtime

If you’re wondering what to do with your children now the school holidays have begun, look no further than the Whitworth.

Building on the previous success of PLAYTIME 2018, which won ‘Best Event’ at the Fantastic for Families awards 2019, this summer the gallery is proud to present their new PLAYTIME theme: Water.

"So far in week one we’ve had over 2,000 visitors to PLAYTIME”, says Lucy Turner, PLAYTIME Coordinator, “We’ve made sure there’s something for all ages from six week olds up to 16 year olds and even adults, I mean who doesn’t love to play?”

Until Sunday, 1 September, adults and children of all ages can enjoy Splash Studio, giant garden games and a sensory area for babies, in partnership with playground equipment company Pentagon Play. There’s something for everyone in a gallery where art meets nature.

One parent said: “There’s a great range of activities for the kids, it’s the perfect way to keep them entertained. I can relax and watch them explore. Happy Kids. Happy mum. I will most definitely be making a return visit.”

Open every day 11am-3pm and all completely free.

Founded in 1889 as a gallery in the park for the people of Manchester, the Whitworth has been transformed in recent years by a £15 million development.

As one of the University’s cultural institutions, the gallery is a place of research and academic collaboration, and whose education and learning teams have generated new approaches to working with non-traditional arts audiences.
