Whether it’s volunteering, hosting your own micro-festival, participating in a show or just meeting new friends, there are an abundance of ways for you to get involved in MIF19
Host your own micro-festival
Manchester International Festival (MIF) has been supporting people in and around the city to host inspiring community arts events in their own homes through ‘Festival in My House’ since autumn 2016. Applicants require no experience, with each host helped every step of the way by a team of experienced producers, as well as being given a budget of £1,500.
Take part in a show
Thousands of people across Greater Manchester have taken part in MIF productions: walking a catwalk in Piccadilly Gardens, performing alongside the likes of Gorillaz and New Order, and working with Underworld’s Karl Hyde on a unique participatory work of art. MIF will be continuing this tradition in 2019 with a new programme of major participatory events in which people from all walks of life can get involved. MIF is looking for people across Greater Manchester to get involved in the run-up to MIF19’s opening event on Thursday, 4 July – Yoko Ono’s Bells for Peace.
Become a volunteer
From helping out in MIF’s city-centre offices to greeting the public at Festival events, MIF’s diverse and supportive community of volunteers are one of the Festival’s greatest assets. Passionate about the arts, the Festival and the city, volunteers are crucial in making every stage of the Festival experience happen. Design a piece of Festival Square
Unleash your creativity by designing your own unique ceramic tile to adorn the bars in Festival Square in the centre of the city by Manchester Town Hall, the bustling focal point of MIF19. Night on the Tiles, is a series of special free-to-attend workshops organised in collaboration with the acclaimed craft collective Standard Practice (formerly OH OK LTD), who specialise in community-led design. Under the guidance of a professional potter, you will design and produce a tile which will be seen by hundreds of thousands of people visiting Festival Square and go on to have a life after MIF19 – details to be revealed.
Perform in Festival Square
MIF is looking for exciting performers and artists in every genre from Greater Manchester to showcase their talents on Festival Square this summer. Located in Albert Square outside the Town Hall, Festival Square is a lively space for everyone to eat, drink and take in the Festival buzz. With live music, great DJs and delicious street food, Festival Square is the social heart of the Festival. More details on how to apply.
