Be A Match and Save A Life

16 Mar 2012

On March 20 the Manchester African-Caribbean Society and the African Caribbean Leukaemia Trust (ACLT) will join forces to hold a recruitment drive in order to register people for blood, bone marrow and organ donations.

The event will take place at Manchester Metropolitan University Students Union on Oxford Road between 11am and 5pm. This is an opportunity to gain further information about donations and understand the importance of donating.

The number of white donors greatly outweighs the number of ethnic minority donors. There is currently a 1 in 100,000 chance of an African-Caribbean individual finding an unrelated matched bone marrow donor, for a white individual it is 1 in 5. And the odds for blood and organ donors are equally dispiriting.
