Do you use particular applications for teaching or research?

07 Mar 2012

IT Services is reviewing the compatibility of existing software applications with the new Windows 7 operating system.

The University is modernising its desktop computing infrastructure and delivering a new image, the operating system and applications, across its managed desktop estate. The new image will be based in Windows 7, a newer operating system.

As a result, the portfolio of software applications is being reviewed for compatibility. Not all applications will be compatible, and some will be retired while others may need to be upgraded to newer versions. The project team are working with key people across the university to identify required applications.

If you use a particular application for your research or teaching and are concerned that we may not know about it, please visit:

Here you will find further information, be able to check compatibility data and have the opportunity to  submit feedback regarding any software application.

The new desktop image will be rolled out to student cluster PCs used for teaching during the summer, in preparation for the start of the 2012/13 academic year. Following on from that, there will be a continued rollout to staff computers over the course of the following months.
