Manchester is number one for graduate recruitment

18 Jan 2012

Manchester is the top university in the UK among graduate recruiters.

Manchester is top for jobs

That’s according to the latest figures from some of the UK’s biggest employers, featured in a new report entitled ‘The Graduate Market in 2012’.

The report, compiled by High Fliers Research, is an annual review of graduate vacancies and starting salaries at Britain’s leading employers.

The report says: “The top five institutions targeted by the largest number of leading employers are Manchester, London (which for this analysis refers to Imperial College, the London School of Economics and the University of London), Cambridge, Nottingham and Oxford.

“These universities have attracted the largest number of top graduate employers for campus careers fairs, local presentations or other university recruitment promotions during 2011-2012.”

The research also analyses the starting salaries that top employers are planning to pay new graduates due to begin work in 2012, and the number of graduate vacancies at the UK’s leading employers. It reveals that the number of graduate vacancies could increase again in 2012, whilst the median starting salary for new graduates in these companies is £29,000.

Jane Ratchford, Director of the Careers & Employability Division, said:  “We are delighted to see that Manchester is once again the most targeted University by graduate recruiters.  It not only shows the value of a Manchester degree but it also reflects the high quality of our graduates.”
