Free public lecture - Malcolm X: Visits Abroad

By author of Malcolm X: Visits Abroad, and noted historian, Marika Sherwood, on Thursday 20 October (6.30pm - 8.30pm) at University Place.

“While Malcolm X was in prison he read every book in the library – and joined an organisation calling itself the Nation of Islam. A most effective speaker, on his release he recruited thousands to the Nation of Islam (NOI). However, he became dissatisfied with the NOI’s political philosophy, so he left the NOI and travelled in East and West Africa, and to Britain a number of times to give lectures. Among the universities where he addressed overflow crowds was Manchester. He was murdered on returning from one of his visits to Britain. Did the NOI assassinate him as it is usually alleged, or are there other possibilities?” Marika Sherwood
