Relax, unwind and de-stress with a free lunchtime concert by Gamelan Degung on 1 April (1.10pm)
FREE LUNCHTIME CONCERT: GAMELAN DEGUNG: The University of Manchester’s music students with special guest Bhupinder Singh Chaggar
Relax and enjoy a free concert at The Martin Harris Centre as part of Wellbeing Week.
Gamelan Degung is a small gamelan orchestra unique to Sunda, the mountainous region of West Java, Indonesia. The performers are second year music students who are studying gamelan as part of their degree course.
They will be joined by Bhupinder Singh Chaggar, an exceptionally talented tabla player based in Leeds. He is one of the leading disciples of the renowned tabla maestro and Gharanadar of the Benares gharana, Pandit Sharda Sahai Ji. The concert will include a selection of traditional and contemporary Sundanese repertoire, as well as original pieces collectively composed by the group.
