Professor Colin Stirling appointed Deputy VC, Academic, at Curtin University

Professor Stirling, Vice-President for Teaching, Learning and Students, is to leave the University in May to take up a new appointment as Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic, at Curtin University in Perth, Australia.

Professor Stirling has been Vice-President of Teaching and Learning since 2008 and was Associate Vice-President (eLearning) from 2007 to 2008. He joined the University of Manchester in 1990, becoming a Lister Jenner Fellow in 1993, Professor of Genetics in 1998 and a Royal Society Wolfson Research Fellow in 2006.

In his new role at Curtin University, Professor Stirling will provide strategic leadership to the faculties in supporting the University directions in research, teaching and learning.

Commenting on his new appointment, Professor Dame Nancy Rothwell, said: “We wish Colin well in his new role, but we will miss him here at Manchester. During his time as a Vice-President and Associate Vice-President, he has provided real leadership to our efforts to improve the student experience and has overseen a dramatic improvement in many areas, including our policies on feedback and personal support and the transformation of our on-line learning environment.”
