New Faces, Fresh Voices: Schools in Manchester need governors

05 Nov 2010

Volunteer for this vital and rewarding role today and help local schools in Manchester deliver the highest standards of education possible

School governance is the most important voluntary role in education and a full, diverse governing body can be a source of enormous strength to a school. At present there are approximately 40,000 governor vacancies in England, and Manchester currently faces a particular need.

The average time commitment is just 2-4 evening meetings per term, you do not need to be a parent and the most important quality you can have is to be willing to participate fully.

Acting as a ‘critical friend’ to the school you will need to share opinions, give ideas and work towards positive solutions. As well as the satisfaction of knowing you are making a real difference, if you volunteer you will use and improve a range of highly transferable skills, work with new people and have the opportunity to apply your knowledge and experience in a new environment.

School Governors’ One Stop-Shop is here to answer your questions, find you a placement and guide you through the application process.

To find out more about the role and how to apply:

I hope to hear from you soon!
