Bloodhound SSC - the 1000mph World Land Speed Record car

IET Christmas Lecture for the North West on 7 December

The Undergraduate Recruitment and Widening Participation team, in conjunction with The Institution of Engineering and Technology, are hosting the IET Christmas Lecture for the North West. The presentation will be given by David Rowley, Bloodhound Programme Education Director, Bloodhound SSC - the 1000mph World Land Speed Record Car:

The Evening Event is free and is open to all. It will take place at 7pm in the Whitworth Hall on 7 December 2010 – with refreshments served from 6.15pm. To attend this event, please book online at:

The current World Land Speed Record is 763mph. The new Bloodhound SSC car will hit Mach 1.4, and reach 1050mph in just 40 seconds using a combination of jet, rocket, and piston power. Low speed runs will commence in 2011 with the 1000mph attempt taking place in 2012.

David Rowley will present an overview of this astonishing project, and the engineering and technology challenges presented to the team in the conception, design, realisation, and pending test programme leading up to the world land speed record attempt.
