Managing Conflict, Negotiation Skills & Problem Solving and Decision Making

17 Feb 2010

New dates for STDU courses

TBF51 - Managing Conflict - 22 Feb, 23 March or 24 April, 9.30am-12.30pm

The vast majority of people have to deal with conflict at some time in their lives. Conflict here is generally defined as an emotionally charged dispute wherein the parties appear to have opposing interests or have entrenched contrary views or opinions. Conflict can be very de-stabilising and stressful and, if un-resolved, can lead to poor performance and even ill health.

This course provides an opportunity to re-consider conflict situations and work out how best to handle them. It provides some opportunity for skills practice and also provides personal insights into current individual approaches to conflict handling.

TBF53 - Negotiation Skills - 28 April, 9.30am-4.30pm

There are many situations in and out of work where negotiation skills are important, whether it be negotiating a contract for services or debating with the kids where to go for the weekend. Developing your negotiation skills will empower you to achieve better value for money and an effective and timely service delivery.

This course covers negotiation situations and how to prepare for them; negotiation positions and their implications for strategy, tactics and outcomes; negotiation phases and how to maintain momentum and achieving agreement and safeguarding implementation.

-----

TBF52 - Problem Solving and Decision Making - 16 March, 9.30am-4.30pm

We all have to solve problems and make decisions all the time and therein lies the danger - it is all too easy to accept our current approach and not realise that there might be ways to improve the way we tackle problems and make decisions. This course offers participants an opportunity to review their approach to problem solving and decision-making, consider ways to categorise problems and which problem solving approaches might be appropriate to different classes of problem.

The course includes:

  • Common sense problem solving and decision-making
  • Case study exercises
  • Classifying problems and approaches
  • Decision-making options and outcomes
