Does it rain more at the weekend?

20 Oct 2009

Manchester Science Festival interactive event

Dr Andy Russell (School of Earth, Atmospheric and Environmental Sciences) has organised an interactive event to take place at this year's Manchester Science Festival.

The aim is to get as many people as possible in the Greater Manchester area to make their own rain collector and take measurements of rainfall for one week (Saturday 24 October to Friday 30 October).

There is a chance to win a wireless rain gauge (worth £50) and a Royal Meteorological Society umbrella (priceless!) for anyone contributing rain measurements.

There will also be an event at the festival on Saturday 31 October 2009 between 11am and 3pm at MOSI where you can see the data collected and learn more from historical weather observations from the area.

For more details on the project and how to get involved, go to

I'd also be really grateful if people could forward this information to anyone they know that might be interested in making a simple rain gauge or who has their own weather station and could contribute measurements.
