Pimp My Browser: A guide to using Web 2.0 tools.

06 Mar 2009

Workshop for academic and academic-related staff on 27 March.

"PIMP": trans. slang (orig. U.S.). To customise or modify (something, originally a car) so as to be more stylish, ostentatious, or flashy; to improve by customisation.

Friday 27 March 2009, 12.30-5pm
CEEBL, C24 Sackville Street Building

Presented by Peter Whitton, CEEBL Learning Technologist

  • Buffet lunch: 12.30-1pm
  • Session 1: 1-3.40pm (max 40 places)
  • Session 2: 3.50-5pm (max 15 places)

Who is it for?

This is a fun, participatory, two-part workshop designed for academic and academic-related staff interested in finding out about some of the cool, freely available web tools that can be used to customise your internet browsing experience and to help you work more productively using the web. Participants can book for Session 1 only (1-3.40pm, max 40 places), or for Sessions 1 and 2 (1-5pm).

What is it about?

The first part of the workshop will take a non-technical look at what Web 2.0 really means and the impact it may have on the way you use the web. Participants will find out how Web 2.0 tools can be used to create a personal web portal, network effectively, share your resources and collaborate with others online.

In the second part of the workshop participants will have a chance try some of these tools in an informal, hands-on session with the CEEBL learning technologist (only a limited number of CEEBL laptops are available so please bring your own if possible).

By the end of this workshop you should be able to:

  • Describe what is commonly meant be Web 2.0
  • Identify some of the freely available Web 2.0 tools
  • Assess how some of these tools could be used in a teaching and learning context

This event is free of charge and places are limited. Please visit our website for on-line registration:

We very much look forward to welcoming you.
