Symposium on Humanoid Robotics: the iCub Project.

Fee-paying, one-day Symposium and free evening lecture.

Time: 9.30am - 5pm (day event), 6-8pm (evening event)

Venue: Alan Turing Building

Both the day and evening event are centred around the most advanced humanoid robot in Europe, the iCub. The iCub is the standard platform for research projects in cognitive science within the EU's 7th framework research programme. The University of Manchester will play host to the iCub's first ever visit to the UK.

The Symposium will focus on aspects of the mechatronics, mechanical construction, motors, drives, sensors, communication networks, cognitive and control architectures, software systems and proposed applications within the UK. The event during the day will be more "technical" whereas the evening lecture will be aimed at a broad audience and will be given by Professor Darwin Caldwell, the Director of the Italian Institute of Technology. The evening lecture should interest both the technically-minded and those with just a general interest in robotics.

The iCub will be available during the day to demonstrate some of the following: eye and head motion control, leg operation, object recognition and grasping.

Cost: £30 registration fee for the Symposium. The evening lecture is free but registration is still required.
