  • MS36: Development Centre for Managers
    29 January, 9.30am – 4.30pm

The Development Centre for Managers has been specifically designed to allow an in-depth review of management skills, strengths and weaknesses with a view to developing a personal management development action plan.

The format is similar to that used for assessment centres for managerial jobs and therefore provides an additional benefit of insight into such processes as part of career development.

The Development Centre consists of a number of exercises which participants undergo including for example psychometric tests, group work exercises, in-tray exercises and role-plays in which participant performance is observed and evaluated by a team of trained observers.

Numbers for each Development Centre are strictly limited owing to the need to have sufficient trained observers available. Due to the resource intensiveness of the service, would-be participants will need to complete a pre-course application form setting out a specific case for attendance endorsed by their supervisor or manager.

  • MS20: Developing Your Staff
    18 February, 9.30am – 12.30pm

Life-long learning and the continuous development of staff is an important issue for organisations, such as the University, subject to continuous change. This course enables managers to consider ways of identifying and meeting the development needs of staff (in addition to training courses) and discuss ways of building a positive learning environment at work.
