Invitation to the Mimas Open Forum 2008 on 9 July.

Information event for existing and potential users of national data centre.

Mimas invites you to attend the Mimas Open Forum 2008: Anticipating User Needs of the Future.

Mimas is a JISC and ESRC-supported national data centre, based at The University of Manchester, providing the UK Higher Education, Further Education and research community with access to key data and information resources to support teaching, learning and research across a wide range of disciplines.

This year's event will be held on Wednesday 9 July 2008 (from 10am to 4pm) at The Manchester Dental Education Centre (MANDEC), The University of Manchester.

The Mimas Open Forum is open to librarians, support staff, teachers, researchers and students at Higher and Further Education institutions and Research Councils.

Event Programme

Registration and the Morning Session (presentations) will take place at MANDEC from 10am (registration from 9.30am).

The interesting and varied presentations include:

  • The Research Desktop of the Future (Stephen Andrews – British Library)
  • Application of Landmap Satellite Data: Understanding the changes of the intertidal bed at Morecambe Bay, Lancashire (Gail Millin and Kamie Kitmitto – Mimas)
  • Holy Grails and Long Tails: exploring our future (Lisa Charnock, Joy Palmer, Lisa Jeskins, Andy Priest, Stuart Smith and Caroline Williams – Mimas)

Three interactive parallel workshops are scheduled for the Afternoon Session (2-4pm):

  • The Repositories Landscape: Where are Repositories now, and what's around the corner?
  • The UK Access Management Federation and Mimas (& other) Services
  • Landmap: Cities Revealed (Beyond Google Maps)
