*Saddle up for National Bike to Work Day*.

21 May 2008

NEW cyclists wanted and current cyclists here to help.

Ever had the thought that it would be great to try cycling to work?

Well now is your opportunity to drag the bike out of the garage and give it a go!

Bike to Work rides - Wednesday 18 June

We have seven routes which will arrive in the central Oxford Road area at 8.30am. All will be lead by experienced cyclists. The routes are:

  • Chorlton via Whalley Range
  • Levenshulme
  • East Didsbury
  • West Didsbury via Withington
  • Prestwich
  • Sale Moor
  • Ashton

These rides are being organised by the Higher Education Precinct (MMU, The University of Manchester, NHS Trust and RNCM). We want as many NHS staff as possible to take part. The central arrival point is at the Uni of Manchester but, wherever possible, you will guided to the NHS site (Central Manchester).

Not got a bike but keen to try cycling?

We have a limited number of cycles available FREE for the week (16-20 June). To express your interest in using a hired bike please contact Andrew Hough (a.j.hough@mmu.ac.uk). Ideally, you should be able to cycle all week, join in one of the rides and be happy to pass on your experiences.

Cycle training

A limited number of free places on cycle training sessions (various dates) will be available, based at the Velodrome (not on the track!) in East Manchester. These will be run by Bike Right! and cover a range of abilities. Contact Andrew for details.

On the day there will also be prizes for those that take part, security marking, maintenance checks and lots of cycling information.

Please register if you plan to take part (whether you are a new cyclist or not), as we need to gauge numbers.
