Community Fridge launches at Students' Union

31 Jan 2023

We are excited to announce that we are opening a Community Fridge at the Students’ Union - for those that need a little extra help

Community Fridge

Alison Shedlock, Assistant Director of Estates and Facilities, said: “We are delighted to open our Community Fridge which is open to support both students and wider members of our community.

"We are really keen to get this started and support the fridge with surplus food from Hospitality on Campus, Food on Campus, and Corridor Coffee at the Students’ Union.”

Community fridges are open to everyone in communities – without any need to be referred or having to prove eligibility – to share fresh food that would otherwise have gone to waste.

Ben Ward, Chief Executive of the Students’ Union, added: “We’re delighted to be working on such an innovative scheme, empowering people towards community-led food solutions that will help to build community resilience.”

The Community Fridge working in partnership with Hubbub is the perfect outlet to help reduce wastage and redistribute food.
