Students' Union: Exec Officers applications now open

18 Jan 2023

Encourage our students to enhance their skills by submitting applications for Exec Officers positions at our Students' Union

University of Manchester Students' Union

Every year, the University of Manchester Students’ Union runs elections to choose their Exec Team - the trustees and leaders who represent their 45,000 members.

Exec Officer roles are full-time positions, paying over £22k per annum, that begin in August 2023. Any current student can run - if they’re not in their final year, they will take a sabbatical from their degree. International students will be supported if they require any changes to their visa.

The Exec team comprises:

  • Union Affairs Officer - exercises their influence through a range of relationships, networks and meetings to promote, defend and extend the rights of students
  • Activities & Culture Officer - champions student societies and ensures they get the support, development and recognition they need and advocates for international students
  • Research Officer - represents Postgraduate Research students, advocating for their wellbeing and overseeing the Union’s social and development opportunities for them
  • Wellbeing and Liberation Officer - directs the Union’s work on equality, diversity and liberation. They support student liberation campaigns and champion under-represented students, as well as advocating for student health and wellbeing
  • Humanities Officer/Biology, Medicine and Health Officer/Science and Engineering Officer - three separate Exec Team roles representing each of the three Faculties. These Officers work with their Faculty to improve students’ education, exercising their influence at University Senate and other Academic Committees to represent students’ academic interests
  • City and Community Officer - ensures students are engaged with their local community, highlighting change on issues that affect their everyday lives

Campaigning during LeadMCR is a great opportunity for students to tell others their ideas for change and communicate what they care about. It builds skills such as public speaking, persuasive communication and teamwork.

Applications are now open and close on 13 February, with voting taking place online 6 - 9 March. Students will need to complete the online application form, outlining their ideas for change and why students should vote for them.

Please share this information with your students or direct them to the Union website. They can also email suelections@manchester.ac.uk to talk to a member of the Students' Union Democracy team.
