Printer issues on campus

16 Sep 2022

IT Services are aware of a high number of print issues reported from across campus and are working closely with the University’s managed print provider to ensure the print service is of the high standard we expect.

We have drafted in additional engineers from our managed print provider to work through reported issues and carry out remedial work.

How can you help?

Managed printers are designed to self-report errors and consumable [toner] orders, however we have encountered some issues with this automated service in some buildings.

If you experience an issue with a printer that requires urgent attention, please report it by following the instructions on the device – in most cases there is a sticker on the top of the printer detailing support and device information, which you may be asked to quote when reporting the issue. If possible, you may want to take a photo of the device information sticker before calling.

Whereas the general advice is to report issues directly to our managed print provider – Xerox – you can also contact the IT Support Centre who can report it for you. If you don’t want to call, please use the IT Support Portal to log a ticket – in the Support Portal, select ‘Request Support’, then search for the word ‘print’ and select the form titled ‘Printing, print queues, fault reports and credits’ to tell us about the issue.

We are actively looking at ways we can make improvements to the print service, including increasing the number of Xerox engineers on campus to support us to restore a higher level of service.
