Supporting new students on campus during Welcome 2022
This year’s Welcome is running for two weeks from 12 September for UG and PGT students. The first week has focused mainly on online activities, with on campus events getting underway next week.
This time gives students the opportunity to meet and connect, explore our campus and get to know the city they’ll be calling home.
As you will now be aware, to mark the State Funeral of Queen Elizabeth II, Monday 19 September has been declared a bank holiday in the UK. We have rearranged Welcome events due to take place on the day, however a number of our services and buildings will remain open, including Student Card Collection.
President and Vice-Chancellor Professor Dame Nancy Rothwell said:
"Over the next few days we will see many new students arrive on our campus, from their homes in the UK and internationally. This is a really exciting time as we welcome them to our community and help them settle into University life over the next few weeks.
“I’d like to thank all the academic and professional services staff who have done so much to prepare for Welcome and have acted so quickly and professionally to adapt to the changes arising from the State Funeral of Queen Elizabeth II. And a special thank you to our staff and Students Union team who will be working on Monday, continuing to help our students and provide essential services.
“I am also delighted that all students under our accommodation guarantee have now been offered a place in Manchester and would like to thank all colleagues who have worked so hard to achieve this against the backdrop of unprecedented demand.
“We’ve also been overwhelmed with the number of staff from across our University so far showing their commitment to help new students by requesting AskMe badges and responding to any questions that may come their way. We all have something to offer our students - and it’s still not too late for you to get involved!”

We’re asking staff on campus to wear AskMe badges for the duration of the Welcome period to help with any questions that our new students have when they arrive. To find out more and collect a badge, please email studentnews@manchester.ac.uk.
Our AskMe ambassadors have already been active on campus since Tuesday 13 September, with designated AskMe points sited at key locations.
And our Welcome website is being updated regularly with the latest information and advice for new students as they take these first steps in their University journeys.
