Wood Street Mission Lottery

25 Apr 2022

A bumpy year but our generous members donate £3,250 to help struggling local families

Wood Street Mission

Our Wood Street Mission Lottery has raised £3,250 for the charity that helps struggling local families this year.

Organiser and retired University colleague, Muriel Shingler said: “We have had a bumpy year with contributions, with members leaving the University and COVID-19.

“Myself and our Treasurer, Rose Underwood believe that this is amazing sum has only been achieved by your continued support for Wood Street Mission for which we thank you.”

Get involved

What does £2 a month buy? Not very much usually. But it will buy you a share in the Wood Street Mission Lottery – and help the Mission to provide bedding and basic essentials for needy families in the area.

You can sign up to buy from one to five shares a month at £2 per share. The proceeds from each share are divided equally between the winner (£1) and Wood Street (£1). The winner is notified shortly after the monthly draw, which is done independently, and receives a cheque for the amount of money in the fund at that time.

New members are always welcome. If you decide to join, your number(s) will go into the draw in the month following receipt of your first subscription. If you decide to withdraw from the Lottery, you are asked to give one month’s notice.

The Lottery was set up in 1974 and is run under licence from Manchester City Council. Ms Rose Underwood BSc administers the financial side of the Lottery and looks after new applications.
