Raising funds for pioneering medical treatment for young girl

University staff member Rowena Forbes is set to jump out of an aeroplane at 14,000 feet on 17 June 2007, in order to raise money to help a young girl from the North West.

Amy Garton-Hughes is a 15-year-old girl who suffers from a strain of Cockayne Syndrome; a hugely debilitating condition which brings on ageing and affects her growth, skeleton, sight, hearing, speech, maturity, and her general development as a human being.

Rowena, who works at the MLP Careers & Employability Division, explained: "For the past year, Amy has been receiving pioneering medical treatment from geneticists in the US, all paid for entirely through charitable donations. The unique treatment she received is now being used to help other children across the world. But it all costs money, and most of the money raised before has run out; which is why I'm joining in this mad scheme to jump out of a plane!"

Further information is available online at:

If you would like to help Rowena help a young girl by sponsoring her, you can do so either with a cheque or online through the website. If you do so, PLEASE let Rowena know when you donate and how much you are giving by emailing her at:
