Office for Open Research launch event

18 Mar 2022

All colleagues are invited to the launch event for the Office for Open Research, taking place via Zoom on Monday, 4 April, 2-4pm

Office for Open Research

In our strategic vision Our future, we committed to transforming our research environment to better support more open, transparent and reproducible research practices across the University. The launch of our Office for Open Research is a key step towards realising this ambition, and we do hope that you are able to join us to mark this important milestone in our journey.

During the event we will hear about the future plans for the Office, as well as hearing from a panel of speakers who will talk about the importance of universities like ours taking steps to fully embed open research into our institutional practice.

Our panel:

  • Sara Rouhi, Director of Strategic Partnerships at PLOS (Public Library of Science) - Sara works to develop new business models for sustainable and inclusive open access publishing and will be speaking about challenges in moving towards a more equitable and open publishing landscape.
  • Mark Hahnel, CEO and founder of FigShare - Mark founded the repository platform FigShare which provides research data infrastructure for institutions, publishers and funders globally. He will be speaking about the importance of reusable and interoperable open research data.
  • Professor Caroline Jay, Dept of Computer Science - Caroline works to improve software sustainability from both technical and cultural perspectives and will be talking about how open software underpins and supports the broader open research movement.
  • Professor Carole Goble, Dept of Computer Science - Carole is a co-author of the 2016 FAIR Guiding Principles article and will be speaking about the benefits and opportunities that greater adoption of open research provides.
