17 Mar 2022

From Monday, 21 March, a banner will pop up on the Staffnet site asking visitors to give consent to install certain types of cookies on their computers or mobile devices

Explicit cookie consent is required by UK privacy law.

Cookies are small files that collect data from visitors, and which help us understand how they use websites, for example which pages are most popular, so we can improve their user experience.

Through the banner, visitors will be able consent to all cookies, opt out of certain cookies or reject cookies altogether according to their preference.  Some essential cookies will still be installed by default.

The new banner on Staffnet follows implementation of the cookie banner on external-facing University websites including the central site last July.

The banner on Staffnet will appear only if users have not given consent previously to cookies when visiting other University-related websites that have had the banner added. Consent is set to last for a year, but users will be able to make changes to cookie settings at any time.

Staffnet microsite owners are not required to make any changes to their websites. Further guidance to site owners will be sent via the usual channels.
