Team Rwanda: Applications open for flagship volunteer project

01 Mar 2022

Creating opportunities for Widening Participation students

Team Rwanda

After two years of remote volunteering, the University’s flagship overseas project, Team Rwanda, is due to go ahead this summer. Help us increase the range of experiences available to widening participation students by spreading the word about this once in a lifetime opportunity.

The partnership project between the University, Azizi Life and University of Rwanda, will see a group of students travel to Rwanda to volunteer for a month on community research, digital media, enterprise and environmental projects, supporting local artisans and communities. The project will give a team of student volunteers, including a Team Leader, the chance to gain valuable skills, develop their inter-cultural awareness and enhance their employability.

Emma Richardson, Volunteering and Community Engagement Consultant says: “After being paused for so long, it's really exciting that international volunteering is finally up and running again. Although we were able to develop a valuable remote volunteering alternative during the pandemic, nothing beats volunteering in person overseas, especially since so many students have missed out on valuable travel and intercultural opportunities in that time. We can’t wait to be back!"

In addition to Team Rwanda, students across the University will be able to explore opportunities with our Trusted Partner organisations, where increased funding is helping to make overseas volunteering more accessible.

Applications to Team Rwanda open on Tuesday, 1 March (9am) and close on Friday, 1 April (4pm).
