International Women’s Day talk - The Gendered Brain by Gina Rippon

17 Feb 2022

Don’t miss your opportunity to meet the neuroscientist and author shattering the myth of the gendered brain

Professor Gina Rippon

The Faculty of Biology, Medicine and Health welcomes Professor Gina Rippon, author of ‘The Gendered Brain’ to celebrate International Women’s Day for 2022.

For centuries both neuroscience and behavioural science have been pursuing a Hunt the Difference agenda, trying to find ways of characterising the differences between the brains and behaviour of females and males.

But just how different are women and men?

Can brain scientists tell the differences between what they describe as female and male brains? Are women and men really distinguished by their levels of empathy or their map-reading skills?

This talk revisits these old questions and introduces answers that might surprise you.

Gina will be joined by Dr Ellen Poliakoff, Senior Lecturer in Psychology, and Adele MacKinlay, Director of People and Organisational Development.

  • The event will take place in Lecture Theatre B, University Place, on Thursday, 10 March 2022, starting at 1pm. A live stream will also be available (please register for instructions).
